Rolfing®, also known as Structural Integration, is a form of bodywork named after Dr. Ida P. Rolf, a biochemist who was influenced by osteopathy, physical therapy, and yoga. The Rolf Institute was founded by Dr. Rolf in 1971 and is headquartered in Boulder, CO with several international branches.
Rolfing specifically organizes the body’s connective tissue network. This network surrounds the muscles and organs, supports position of the bones and gives the body’s shape/structure in gravity. Throughout our life, injuries and wear and tear, along with our constant struggle against gravity, can cause our structure to get out of alignment. The connective tissue forms adhesions/restrictions and the body compensates to maintain balance. The result can include; chronic pain, poor posture, decreased flexibility and impaired breathing capacity.
The job of the Rolfer is to free those restrictions in the connective tissue which in turn releases compensations made and allows balance to be restored in the body. This restored balance can facilitate the body to heal itself.

Reiki (RAY-key) is an ancient Japanese art of natural hands-on healing. Reiki is a spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional bodies. With this technique, practitioners transfer healing energy in the form of ki through the palms.
When receiving a professional treatment, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table where the practitioner gently places his/her hands on certain energy centers of the body as he/she channels healing energy. People may feel heat, tingling or cooling energy where the hands are placed. A Reiki session is very calming and nurturing and people often find themselves falling into a deep sleep or meditative state.
In Reiki, there are three levels of instruction also know as the degrees: First, Second, and Master/Teacher. According to Reiki practitioners and Masters, at First Degree, a Reiki practitioner is able to heal himself and others, at Second Degree he is able to heal others distantly (commonly called distant healing) with the use of specialized symbols, and at Master level (specifically Master/Teacher level) he is able to teach and attune others to Reiki.
